For many years, the venue hosted the annual Music Week as a yearly event in the 1920s and 30s. The main purpose of this building, previously, was to facilitate concerts, theatres, operas, and other social and political events. It was the largest opera house in the USA other than the Madison Square Garden in New York when it was known as the Municipal Auditorium. It was formerly known as Quigg Newton Denver Municipal Auditorium and the Municipal Auditorium. The venue is under the ownership of the Denver Performing Arts Complex (City and County of Denver). This auditorium underwent renovations in the years 1956, 1992, and 2005. It has a seating capacity of 2,225 people at a time. This venue is a part of the Denver Performing Art Complex which was opened to the public on July 7, 1908. The Ellie Caulkins Opera House is located at 1400 Curtis Street, Denver, Colorado.
